about

A love letter to folk music and friendship, Palmerston is a record about attempting to move through and grapple with trying, yearning, desire, acceptance, romance, trauma, communion, and raw faith. Written in a cold winter on Palmerston Avenue, the record is a loose pulse, a breathing body, flickering back and forth seeking answers and some company. A flare sent up into the night, calling for the dawn to wake up from its slumber. With Genevieve, Palmerston wakes up to the morning sun. From there, the day moves as the record moves, finally resting into Lord of Song, a nigun (jewish wordless song, sung as a means of elevating the soul to God), a midnight call out toward the spirits. Pleading for meaning.

Inspired by the music of Leonard Cohen, Songs: Ohia, Weyes Blood, Big Thief, Gillian Welch, and Sufjan Stevens, Palmerston is a departure from Glutenhead's previous work, though it is again mixed by Alex Gamble (who produced 2020's S/T). With pieces of folk, alt-country, and psychedelia, Palmerston breaths like a warm room on a chilly Toronto evening.
